Visit the gem of the Channel Islands and party with us!

Alderney is the northernmost of the inhabited Channel Islands, part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey. Just 3 miles long and 1.5 miles wide, it offers a unique blend of unspoilt natural beauty, deep historical roots, and a tight-knit community spirit.

Its rugged coastline, dramatic cliffs, and golden beaches attract nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike.

Alderney has a rich and complex past; from Roman times to Victorian military fortifications, and a particularly poignant role in World War II during German occupation. The remnants of this history are visible across the island, from coastal forts to bunkers and underground tunnels.

Despite its size, Alderney is alive with biodiversity and plays a significant role in conservation, notably for birds like the puffin and the blonde hedgehog, unique to the island. Its laid-back lifestyle, combined with festivals, pubs, and scenic walks, makes it a haven for those seeking peace, heritage & connection with nature.

Accommodation Options

Accommodation on Alderney is as characterful as the island itself. Despite its small size, the island offers a surprisingly rich variety of places to stay, ranging from elegant boutique hotels and charming guesthouses to self-catering cottages and apartments perfect for longer visits. Many of the island’s hotels are family-run, offering a warm welcome and a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere that suits the island’s laid-back rhythm.

For those seeking luxury, The Blonde Hedgehog stands out as a beautifully restored boutique hotel in the heart of St Anne, with tastefully designed rooms and a focus on locally sourced food. On the seafront, Braye Beach Hotel offers sweeping views of Braye Bay, making it ideal for those who want to step out of bed and straight onto the sand. Equally inviting is The Georgian House, a traditional inn with a cosy pub below, well-suited for travellers who enjoy being at the heart of island life.

Self-catering and B&B options are plentiful, with a range of cottages and holiday homes scattered across the island, many with sea views or tucked away in quiet corners near coastal paths. These are especially popular among families and walkers looking for flexibility and privacy. The Alderney Campsite at Saye Bay is a short walk from our event at the Corporation Quarry and has options to suit all budgets from fabulous Bell Tents to "bring-your-own tent" pitches.

Booking early is essential during the summer months and island festivals, as accommodation is limited and in high demand. Whether you're after comfort, independence, or a touch of luxury, Alderney’s accommodation offers an authentic island experience rooted in simplicity, charm, and local character.

Alderney Week

Alderney Week is the island’s biggest annual celebration and one of the most spirited and eccentric festivals in the Channel Islands. Held in early August, it transforms the typically tranquil island into a lively, colourful playground for residents and visitors of all ages. What began in the 1940s as a way to boost community morale has evolved into a week-long series of parades, performances, games, and quirky island traditions, all orchestrated with a mix of irreverence and pride.

At the heart of Alderney Week is its inclusivity: everyone joins in, from costumed children in pram races to local musicians, visiting street performers, and even the occasional pirate ship. Highlights include the Torchlight Procession, the Cavalcade Day parade, a beach party at Braye Bay, and an imaginative raft race that’s more about fun than speed. The entire island becomes a stage, with events popping up in streets, pubs, beaches, and our green spaces, often continuing late into the night with music, dancing, and fireworks.

Despite its scale, Alderney Week retains a delightfully homespun feel. It’s organised largely by volunteers, with a deeply personal touch that reflects the island’s close-knit spirit. For visitors, it’s the perfect time to experience Alderney at its most exuberant: festive, welcoming, and a little bit wonderfully wild. But be warned: accommodation fills up fast, and the week often sells out months in advance, a testament to its enduring charm.

Alderney Week happens one week before RidunaFest - a worthwhile trip for an August to remember!
